Symmetrical photos have a balance of left and right. If there is a flower on the left, there is a flower on the right or something to take it's place. Asymmetrical photos have a balance that is equal and it grabs your attention equally as well. Visual balance is important in the sense that it keeps everything organized to a certain extent. An unbalanced picture feels odd, sometimes.
